We had an accident and spilled acid bathroom cleaner on a 3 inch by 5 inch area of commercial carpet, destroying the fibers. I need some information on repair and possibly carpet dyeing if the patch we use doesn't match up.

There is a simple cutting tool that cuts a round hole, approximately 6" in diameter, in a carpet. You can cut out a section of damaged carpet and another piece of pristine carpet (say from under a filing cabinet or floor planter) and switch locations. You just glue the new spot into place. You can match up most carpets so that the cut spot is invisible to the eye.

These tools are amazing for small spots, with none of the horrors of trying to match dyes.

A note of caution: If the carpet in the area in question is worn, and the piece inserted is not, the patch will be noticeable, especially for the first several months. Dyeing will not impact that. Also, it might be simpler and easier to hire a professional carpet installer/repairman to do this for you.
