Association of Rug Care Specialists (ARCS)
Submitted by Bill Brown
The Association of Rug Care Specialists (ARCS) held its first annual board of directors meeting April 30, in conjunction with its highly successful Dive into Rug Cleaning educational event.
ARCS President Bill Foulds told members that response to the association, formed in November 2010 to advance the art of rug cleaning and educate consumers about quality rug care, has been exceptional.
A highlight of the board meeting was recognition of the 23 ARCS founding member firms, which committed between $1,000 and $2,500 per year for two years to provide a financial base for the new association. Board meeting participants also heard reports from the education, membership and marketing committees.
More than 35 rug care professionals participated in the two-day Dive into Rug Cleaning, held April 29-30 at Deep Eddy Rug and Carpet Cleaners in Austin, TX. Sessions were conducted by some of the nation''s most experienced rug care specialists, who earn their livings cleaning rugs. ARCS will conduct another educational event, a Navajo Rug Tour, in November 2011.
The ARCS participated in the Floor Covering Industry Issues Council meeting May 3 in Chicago.

Professional Association of Cleaning and Restoration (PACR)
Submitted by Jillian Olson
The Professional Association of Cleaning and Restoration (PACR) board of directors and members were excited to attend the annual Connections Conference and Exhibition in Clearwater Beach, FL, on April 13 -16, 2011. This Connections Event is one of PACR''s largest fundraisers throughout the year. PACR members who attended were able to take on “The Experience” at the beach with one of a kind hands-on training and great relaxation and networking on the beach. We hope to see more PACR members at the Connections Convention and Tradeshow at the Las Vegas Hilton on September 7 – 9, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV.
On Thursday, May 26 the PACR will perform its annual cleaning of the Ronald McDonald House in Aurora, CO.
Members will volunteer their time, equipment, products and energy to clean the Aurora Ronald McDonald House as a way to give back to our community. PACR members have teamed up together to clean the carpet at two local Ronald McDonald houses — the Denver House was cleaned on April 28. There is over 90,000 square feet of carpet to be maintained, with a cleaning value of over $15,000. As a follow-up, PACR members will take families staying at the RMH to a Colorado Rockies Baseball Game in August.
For questions about the PACR or the companies who volunteered or are volunteering, please contact Jillian Olson in the PACR office at (877)447-2822 or e-mail her at jolson@meetingsandevents.com.
Mid-South Professional Cleaners Association (MSPCA)
Submitted by Meredith Silliman
The Mid-South Professional Cleaners Association (MSPCA) wants to thank all of our sponsors, attendees, guest speakers and especially our host Sun-Belt USA for another great regional meeting this March.
One of the things discussed during the meeting was our association''s desire to continue its charitable giving now and in the future.
Our board voted to lend support to the Red Cross for Japan relief, our members are collecting can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and we are working on organizing another Day of Caring to clean at a Ronald McDonald House in our region. Great work MSPCA members.
Carpet Cleaners Institute of the Northwest (CCINW)
Submitted by Jane O''Haleck
The Carpet Cleaners Institute of the Northwest (CCINW) would like to challenge our association members to “get in the game.”
Everything you thought you knew about marketing is over, and we have to do different things to appeal to customers than we have in the past. Marketing with “social media” may seem like just the latest fad, but once you get involved you''ll realize that this is where you will find your customers.
I challenge you to sign up for Facebook. “Friend” some people and companies (CCINW!) and spend only 10 minutes a day watching what happens. It really isn''t as difficult as you think (if you don''t have kids, members can call the office for pointers), and even mistakes allow you to seem more “real” to potential customers.
Let your happy customers know about your Facebook page and invite them to leave a comment. Their friends, and friends of their friends, will see that “like” and want to know more about you. Just a few pictures and comments can get them to respond to their friends'' recommendation. The potential for leveraging your customer''s goodwill, at the cost of only a little of your time, can be truly amazing.
We''re waiting to help you succeed. Call or e-mail us today. If you live in the Northwestern United States or Western Canada and would like the support of an association, check us out at www.ccinw.org, CCINW on Facebook and CarpetCleanNW on Twitter.
Or just call us at (877)MY-CCINW.
