To reduce janitors’ workloads and potential risks to children through the inhalation of chemical sprays, a daycare facility in Cuxhaven, Germany, now relies on a cleaning solution with impressive ergonomics, cost efficiency and health protection. The Kita Franzenburg daycare facility follows the open work concept and this is reflected in the architecture of the facility. Large glass surfaces bring in natural daylight to provide a bright atmosphere. “The glass surfaces on doors, walls and windows are touched throughout the day,” says Kita teacher Astrid Schultheis. “The children love to paint on the panes, and food debris can stick to the glass surfaces. It is important to clean interior areas regularly to remove the dirt and the germs.” Interior glass surfaces, including mirrors, are part of the cleaning specifications. “The mirrors in the washroom are dirtied by midday,” says Schultheis. Dirt streaks made by the children are often at knee-height for an adult. This is a burden for the cleaning staff because of constant stooping with the cloth and spray method. To lighten the load, Kita Franzenburg shifted to a new cleaning solution: the Stingray from Unger Enterprises. The product makes interior glass cleaning quicker, more flexible and ergonomic, environmental friendly, and simpler than before. The Stingray can easily be used by cleaning staff members without professional glass cleaning experience. One argument for shifting to Stingray was that the cleaning tool is used in “two-handed mode.” “This eliminates strain and constant stooping when cleaning hard-to-reach places or putting down the spray bottle,” says Juan Wörmcke, owner of Gebäudereinigung Wörmcke, the building service contractor in charge of cleaning Kita. Thanks to the ergonomic design, Stingray makes cleaning hard-to-reach places easier. The Easy-Click pole technology can reach heights of up to 18 feet comfortably.Stingray makes it possible to spray and clean in one operation. Dirt can be efficiently removed with the cleaning tool through contact pressure and the cleaning pad. Users can clean surfaces up to 25 percent faster. “Stingray makes cleaning significantly easier and faster,” says Wörmcke.Stingray is also more economical than cleaning with a spray bottle and cloth. “A cloth quickly becomes too wet. I use too much cleaning fluid and spray too much in the air,” says Wörmcke. “It sometimes takes a long time for the surface to dry completely.” When cleaning is done during the day, janitors must ensure that chemicals do not pose a risk to children. “Stingray’s advantage is that the cleaning solution is in the device,” says Wörmcke. “The integrated, shielded spray mechanism protects children and the user from inhaling the spray.”The integrated spray system also prevents cleaning fluid from dripping.
