I was at the meeting in Vancouver, WA when the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC) dropped what most have called a deadly “bomb”.

By now, unless you have been vacationing in a cave without any modern amenities, you have heard about that bomb. The IICRC board of directors changed the name of the organization to The Clean Trust, and not everyone is happy with it.

Some instructors exclaimed that this was the end of industry education, that the name change is the beginning of the demise of the IICRC – I mean, The Clean Trust. It will take some time to get used to this…

Many who teach categories not carpet cleaning related, such as the variety of disaster restoration classes, feel the new name doesn’t reflect what they do, that the old IICRC included cleaning, inspection and restoration. Will this really make a difference to students looking for education and opportunities for certification? Only time will tell.

After the news hit the streets, I started two Facebook pages to give cleaners and restorers a place to vent, to talk, to discuss this issue and any The Clean Trust related topics in the future.
